Agave potatorum 'Kichiokan'

Agave potatorum 'Kichiokan'-Rare, Compact Agave with Bold Color and Sculptural Form

Agave potatorum ‘Kichiokan’ is a stunning, compact agave variety prized for its symmetrical rosette of broad, blue-green leaves edged with contrasting red to burgundy margins and tipped with sharp spines. Its sculptural form and vibrant colors make it an eye-catching feature in containers, rock gardens, or xeriscapes. Slow-growing and resilient, it’s a favorite among collectors and landscapers alike.

  • Foliage: Broad, blue-green leaves with bold red or burgundy edges and dark terminal spines.

  • Growth Habit: Compact rosette, forming neat, symmetrical clusters.

  • Flowering: Produces tall flower spikes with yellow-green blooms after many years (monocarpic, but produces offsets before flowering).

  • Height/Spread: 20–40 cm tall, spreading up to 45–60 cm.

  • Hardiness: Drought-tolerant and moderately frost-hardy once established.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Thrives in full sun to partial shade; bright light enhances leaf color.

  • Soil: Use well-draining, gritty soil—ideal for succulent or cactus mixes.

  • Watering: Water sparingly—allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Minimal watering in winter.

  • Fertilizer: Feed with a diluted, balanced fertilizer during the active growing season (spring–summer).

  • Temperature: Hardy to light frost but may need protection in severe cold.

  • Maintenance: Remove pups to propagate or to maintain the parent plant’s shape. Handle with care due to spines.

The first four photo serves a display purpose only. The succulent plant housed in the red pot comes in a 130mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.
